Adventure Gym takes students out of their comfort zone

Recently, HEHS began offering Adventure Gym to juniors and seniors.

What is Adventure Gym? Should I take it? Well, according to students like Melissa Shah, a junior, it’s “very exciting and enjoyable.” The class so far has covered team building and rock climbing.

A majority of students who have taken the course say that climbing is their favorite part, but that it is “scary and thrilling at the same time.”

The class, to Lauren Schrader, a junior at Hoffman, is “different,” probably because it is “laid back yet [an] exciting adventure.”

Students, such as Mark Ochana, say that “with friends [class] can be really entertaining.”

The class began when Beth Roesner, PE Department, pushed for it. Other teachers, like Paul Moersch see the value in it.

“Adventure Gym is “completely different,” said Paul Moersch. He says that the curriculum was difficult to implement because of the block scheduling, but he has actually managed to encourage kids much farther than their comfort zone.

Moises Hernandez and Lucas Giltner, seniors at Hoffman, said that the class makes a person “stronger mentally,” and that it helps “overcome some fears you may have.”

Moersch describes the class as one that pushes kids to do new things and discover more about themselves; it is truly a unique class.
