The first day of freshman year is always filled with many different emotions: fear, nerves, anxiety, excitement, or even a mix of all of them. Walking into the building for the first time may have been overwhelming due to seeing the masses of students all around. Finding classes may have been difficult, as well as making friends, and overall adjusting to the school.
Freshman Diana Viahov was most nervous about “just navigating throughout the school and how I was going to be able to keep up with my classes.”
However, it’s been just about two months since the first day of school. HEHS has so much to offer to incoming freshmen. To numerous clubs, sports, and even free tickets to shows.
“In high school you do a ton more stuff. I didn’t have golf back in junior high,” said Evan Trandel, freshman.
Coming into high school, the workload is different from that of junior high or middle school. Classes are only getting harder, and the homework is only piling up. Freshman year is the best year to learn how to manage your time with studying and homework so there’s still time left over for extracirculars, hobbies, and relaxation.
“You definitely need to set a good portion of time aside for homework. It’s really important,” said Neva Gulkesen, freshman.
One of the hardest parts of high school can be making friends. However, friends are what makes the high school experience so memorable, a lot of fond memories can be made.
“I have a lot of friends, some of my cross country teammates, I’m friends with. I made some other friends in some of my other classes. I’m in AP seminar and there’s also sophomores I’ve made friends with,” said Weston Means, freshman.
Compared to years ago, Dr. La Wanna Wells added that freshmen today “have more exposure.” For her, “stability came from home and [I] needed more exposure.”
Overall, every year one class graduates and one class will come into high school. Everyone’s experiences will be different, but high school will pass in a blur, the four years will be gone in a flash.
