Lacrosse at HEHS is more than just a sport—it’s an opportunity to learn valuable life lessons and be part of a family. Looking at boys and girls lacrosse at Hoffman, each team has its own unique sense of closeness.
With the spring sports season coming to an end, the HEHS lacrosse players take a chance to reflect on their team and accomplishments.
“I would describe my team as very uplifting and very supportive,” said Jessica Nassar, senior girls lacrosse player. “If I or any of my teammates ever scored a goal or did something good, my teammates were always uplifting and always gave me words of encouragement.”
This inclusive team comradery has pushed the players to be their best, always counting on one another for support in all of their team’s ups and downs this season.
“I think the best thing about our team is our chemistry with everyone,” said Gaven Palozzolo, junior boys lacrosse player. “Playing lacrosse taught me how you are no bigger than the team.”
From early morning practices to games played in rain, snow, or sunshine, the HEHS lacrosse players have gathered many valuable lessons which they apply every day both on and off the field.
“Playing lax has taught me that you have to be confident. You can always be scared but don’t let your fears hide your confidence,” said Nassar.
For both teams, this season has been persistent in terms of overcoming obstacles and reaching goals. “I’ve learned how to persevere through hardships,” said Yevin Sohn, junior boys lacrosse player.
Through wins and losses, the players know they can rely on their teammates to be there for one another.
“The best thing about our team is how we are able to enjoy our time playing together,” said Sohn.
Beyond just knowledge of lacrosse, these players have gained so much more than that. They’ve learned lasting life lessons such as resilience, dependability, and the importance of hard work.
“Lacrosse taught me so many different things and so many lessons,” said Nassar. “I wouldn’t have some of the traits I have today if it wasn’t for lacrosse.”
