Four cakes. Six competitors. One winner. The tenth annual Bûche de Noël bake-off took place prior to the holiday break and it still sounds so sweet.

Savannah Mote (‘16) won the event for her first time. She placed fourth out of a field of seven last year. “It was a piece of cake, a pretty sweet victory.” Mote won a $25 gift certificate to L’Eiffel Bistrot.

Sara Carey, a French teacher at HEHS, has run this event for the past three years. “It’s great to see all the different types of cakes, the different tastes, and the different appearances.”

The Yule log was traditionally a large log thrown into the fireplace to celebrate Christmas. The bûche de Noël is a cake based off the yule log.

Jake Albertson, a student who graduated last year, has been the most successful competitor. He won the competition three times. Carey wants to see more people come out and compete next year.

“It’s really fun and I would love to see more student involvement!”
