PALS (Peers and Leadership) raised money for the club’s community service outreach through its annual candy gram sales at Parent Open House on September 10.

Natalie Tindle and Jasmin Chung, otherwise known as the Chungle in the English department, run the club. “[Selling candy grams] is a win-win. The parents get to send their kid a sweet treat, and the community gets to donate toward our community service funding,” said Chung.

Often, the candy gram stations were crowded during parent passing periods. A few ‘tardy’ parents bought well into the start of the blocks to avoid the crowd. Though things started out slow, sales climbed as the night went on. As parents signed their personal messages, they frequently asked students about the purpose of the fundraiser and were pleased at the response.

“Parents were excited about helping out our organization and sending a candy gram out to their loved one,” said Tindle.

Members of the club had the opportunity to sign up for one of three stations in the school: the gym, the main entrance, or the English office. They could choose to sign up with friends and help each other pitch to parents.

“PALS is so much fun. I really like the people in it and the atmosphere,” said Sarah Hashim (’18).

PALS is set to use the money raised later in the year to adopt a family (or two) for the holiday season. In the meantime, PALS will begin planning for homecoming hallway decorations and the Halloween community event in October.
