The students of Hoffman Estates High School had a wild night at this year’s Winter Formal. How ironic that the theme for this dance was Jurassic World right after Valentines Day. Oddly, this theme fit the night perfectly.

“They played 2000’s throwback music most of the night,” said Kaylee Tuchmann, junior.

Hoffman Estates didn’t hesitate to live up to the theme of going back in time. Tuchmann says that most of the evening consisted of Shakira, Pitbull, and other songs from her childhood blaring from the speakers.

“The bass was going crazy,” said Omar Valles, sophomore. He also explains that the speaker broke and added another twist to the night.

Luckily, he was accompanied by his good friend Michael Barrón, a sophomore. “At one point they started playing good music like the ‘cha cha slide’ and more of music that people could interact with,” said Barrón.

This allowed students to enjoy the night as a group, and make sure to include everyone. Even though there were a few mishaps, the crowd still found a way to make the night memorable.

Adding to the night’s memories, the hallways were decorated immaculately to resemble the Mesozoic Era.

“[We were able] to see the creativity and unique props that were made and not bought,” said Fenella Cassandra Ibias, freshman.

The students were surprised to see how creative the student council was in picking the theme and its decorations. It may have seemed weird at first glance, but the final product was worth it.

Make sure to catch future Hoffman dances, because as Freshman Ethan Knapp said, “It’s better than staying at home.”
