Being involved is a great way to have a memorable high school experience, and the hardest part seems to be choosing from the many exciting options available to the student body, each club and team can bring something unique to the table.
“Speech fosters a really good community, and even in your English classes, you don’t want to be the person that walks up there and doesn’t know how to speak in front of an audience,” said Sam Wickey, member of the Speech team. “However, if you [join the speech team], you will learn to speak in front of an audience, which is very valuable.”

“Sometimes during book club, we talk about books or we do fun crafts surrounding them. Things like folding them into roses, out of book pages, overall we are a really laid-back club open to everyone,” said Sarah Peterson.
With such a broad range of options, the event highlighted the many ways to get involved and connect with others who share similar interests.
“We [have] a lot of opportunities helping others in the community that need it. When you go to a meeting, you do get hours, that’s really what the whole club is about,” said Huma Hashim, member of Students Helping Others.
Being a part of something bigger than yourself can foster personal growth and teach skills and experience in leadership or communication, all equally valuable life skills that can come in handy one day.
“With Best Buddies we create a community in Hoffman, trying to form connections between our general students and ones with disabilities so we meet one to two times a month, our partners get to take on a leadership role. We have a lot of executive board positions and they help to prepare for our big monthly meeting where we have all of our buddies and partners together,” said Ms. Bolton.
With the school year finally taking off and starting, here’s to hoping that students can find their perfect fit and are ready and wanting to join activities and clubs that provide fulfillment and new experiences.
