Color Run served as an introduction to Homecoming Week and further built the student body’s anticipation for the big event on Saturday. Participants noted the good weather, fun, and bonding moments they experienced and there is a general uplifting mood centered around the event.
“The significance is to build community. The first year it started was right after COVID, so it was a great way to have an outdoor event and bring everyone together during Homecoming Week. It was another fun Homecoming activity to bring the school community together,” said Dr. Kerri Largo, head of the business department and the National Honor Society.
After a long period of isolation worldwide, Color Run served as an excellent opportunity to bring Hoffman students together. The good weather, colorful powders, exercise, and friends create a fun time for anyone attending. Anyone looking to further connect with the school should consider attending or even volunteering for the event.
“Color Run is where participants are showered with vibrant colors as they run, celebrating health, happiness, and community. It symbolizes joy, inclusivity, and freedom, encouraging people of all ages to come together and enjoy the experience,” said Anish Patel, senior.
Students of all grades and backgrounds come together to spend an hour of fun out in the open air. Many have lots of responsibilities and stress at school and taking a run or a walk with their friends can alleviate it. In addition to being a rewarding experience for its participants, Color Run also supports Hoffman’s NHS.
“To host the event, we contacted Kona Ice to cater shaved ice and ordered shirts, ponchos, and color powder. We also asked fellow NHS members to volunteer as course runners, run the check-in/raffle station, and to throw powder. We decorated vibrant posters and created eye-catching posters and flyers that were posted on social media,” said Bhavya Muthu, senior. “Our goal this year was to get a lot more freshmen involved and we went to the Foundations classes to advertise the event.”
Hosting so much fun does not come easy, however. NHS and its sponsors and volunteers spend a great amount of time preparing and organizing the event. Lots of effort was taken to ensure that the news of the event reached as many people as possible, especially freshmen that could ease into high school through a cheerful experience.
