The Hoffman Estates Hawks football team has started off the season with some sweet victories thanks to a grueling training regimen and focused practices that have molded players into a team of worthy contenders, said Joe Lewandowski, assistant coach.

“We felt good about our chances against Streamwood and knew that if we did our job, we could beat them,” he said.

One of the biggest focuses for players is to keep their attention on winning.

“We approach each game the same. We expect to win and try not to get caught up in other stuff. When we do beat our rivals, it’s that much sweeter,” said Brad Willis (’15).

Two of the three games won this season were played on home turf. One major factor has been inclement weather; however, the Hawks have not been deterred.

“The rain is something that doesn’t bother us. We knew that if we executed we would win,” said Jeff Mayes (’15). “We are always prepared for those situations.”

Coach ‘Lew’ is modest in his predictions that his team will win more than half the games played this season. “Winning makes everything easier and helps us gain confidence and momentum that will carry us through to the next game.”
